Wayne Cosmos Win Soccer Tournament

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

This past weekend, at the 28th Annual Cougar Invitational Memorial Day Tournament, the Wayne Cosmos went undefeated and won the tournament championship for the Girls U13 league, representing the Wayne Soccer Club proudly.

 

Played on fields in South Orange & Maplewood, NJ, the tournament included over 128 boys & girls teams that ranged from levels U8 thru U19 from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut & Pennsylvania.

 

The Cosmos had been struggling to string together consecutive wins prior to this tournament but came together to pull-off four straight wins, each by a mere one goal.  Family and friends cheered the team on with each step they took closer toward taking the 2009 title. Coach Carlos Hall and Steve Ottomanelli prepared the team for the grueling task of four games in just over a 24-hour period.  They knew it would be a difficult battle as they were familiar with their opponent in the Championship – Ironbound -- losing to them only one week before.

 

  

Andrea Olarte, defender, earned the tournament MVP title with Rachel McCoy, striker, a close second.  Miranda Diaz, goalie, relinquished only one goal in the Championship game.  Other notables included Rachel Siegel, Dianni Hall, Priyanka Junankar, Naomi Lozy, Morgan Ricciardelli, Jennifer Rodriguez, Alyson Ruzycky, Fareeha Naim, Susanne Ottomanelli and Lyndsay Wright.
